Windows OS Share Rockets Is The Nokia Lumia 920 Responsible?

Microsoft's share of the mobile phone operating system market has increased significantly over the past 12 months, and the success of the Nokia Lumia 920 may have contributed.

Windows Phone currently controls 5.9 per cent of the customer base in Britain, whereas one year earlier it only had 2.2 per cent.

The latest version 8 of the software is used on the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820, as well as the HTC 8X handsets.

Popularity of these colourful touch-screen devices and the innovations of the firmware may have attracted consumers and helped Microsoft to regain popularity.

Kantar Worldpanel Comtech data also shows that Android continues to strengthen and dominate, now running on 54.4 per cent of British smartphones.

Apple's iOS platform has taken a minor hit, perhaps as its premium products now have more difficulty competing with ever-evolving, more affordable alternatives on the market.

Handsets like the LG Nexus 4 offer impressive specifications, like a quad-core processor and eight-megapixel camera, alongside an affordable price tag.
