Will Bluetooth be a must on mobiles by 2013?
Mobile phone users may enjoy a significantly improved and expanded Bluetooth service on their handsets in 2013 compared to the one they have today.
New research by In-Stat has found that while the technology is already widespread in the mobile phone market, it is set to grow further.
For example, the new Bluetooth 3.0 will combine with Wi-Fi to provide a new high-speed connection.
But the classic technology will remain popular too, perhaps ensuring the vast majority of phone users have access to Bluetooth.
"Even though there are competing technologies to Bluetooth, the fact that its core business is mobile phones means that the technology will continue to roll out over time in large volumes," says the research firm's principal analyst Brian O'Rourke.
He adds wireless connectivity is something that is desired by more market segments as time progresses.
Bluetooth allows consumers to send pictures, videos and audio clips to other mobile owners within a certain vicinity of them.
