Sony Flagship Ready For Action As More Images Leak

Sony is drawing closer to the release of its third flagship in less than a year, it appears, as yet more images of the purported Sony Xperia Z3 have leaked online.

It's been a hugely prolific year for the company, which released the Sony Xperia Z1 in October of 2013, and followed this up quickly with the launch of the Sony Xperia Z2 as recently as April. The release of a third phone in just 12 months would show just how seriously Sony is taking its attack on the top end of the market.

We're expecting to see the new device launch some time in October, which would be a year since the last one came out, and it is also likely that the launch will see the smaller and more budget-friendly Sony Xperia Z3 Compact released.

The news comes as two phones make their way through the Russian version of the Federal Communications Commission, with the titles of the Sony devices in question being Sony D6633 and D6603. Both are strongly believed to be variants of the Sony Xperia Z3.

Separately, images have now appeared online, purporting to be the Z3 Compact. Posted to Baidu and spotted by XperiaBlog, the blog claims that they are images of the Z3 itself. However, it looks closer to what we've seen from the Z3 Compact in the past, which makes us believe that it is the smaller phone in the images.

So what can we tell about the Compact from the pictures in question? The images show a micro USB port on one side and a microSD card slot and SIM slot on the other, all of which have the flaps that suggest the handset will once again be fully waterproof.

Previous leaks have also suggested that the Compact could come with a 4.6-inch full HD display, a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM and a 20.7MP camera, all of which would make it the best mini phone around in terms of specs.
