Smartwatch gets Kickstarter funding
A new smartwatch that takes on many of the qualities of a mobile phone has got the much-needed funding it wanted in order to be able to launch.
The Ornate TrueSmart can make calls, send texts, access web content and has GPS navigation and has now achieved the $100,000 (£64,000) Kickstarter funding goal.
Earlier this week it emerged that Canonical had failed to reach its own crowdfunding total, falling around $20 million short. However, the TrueSmart has reached and now passed its more modest funding goal and now has around $202,643 in the pot.
As well as being able to make calls and texts, the device has a built in five-megapixel camera, 4GB of internal storage, a dual-core 1.3GHz processor and 4GB of internal storage. The device comes with a 1.5-inch touchscreen, is water-resistant and runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.
It's thought that the Ornate TrueSmart will be around $179, but could find itself overshadowed by Samsung, as it is expected to launch its own smartwatch device on September 4th.
