Nexus 5 Delayed By US Government Shutdown?

The release of Google’s Nexus 5 mobile phone may have been delayed due to the ongoing shutdown of the US government.

The Nexus 5 was originally thought to be released on October 15th, however current speculation is that it will not be available until either October 31st or November 1st.

A possible reason for this delay is the shutdown of the US government, which has caused the Federal Communications Commission to temporarily lose 98 per cent of its staff.

The FCC usually clears electronic devices for use, however due to the shutdown it has stopped all duties that are not “immediately necessary for the safety of life or the protection of property”.

The FCC certifies around 16,000 devices a year, however it has completely halted this while the shutdown is in effect.

It is unclear whether the Nexus 5 was already certified or not, but Google is certainly one of the companies affected by the FCC and the shutdown.
