LG Smartphone Sales Show Strong Growth In Quarter 2

LG is starting to challenge the top names in smartphone industry, after the firm released its latest sales figures, showing strong performance in the second quarter of the year.

While LG has always had a decent range of smartphones available, it has always lagged behind the likes of Samsung and Apple, and more recently HTC and Sony, but the figures seem to suggest that it is starting to challenge at the top, which may be as a result of the release of its flagship of 2014, the LG G3.

The phone was heralded as a real alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S5, and this has raised the stock of LG considerably. Figures from the company show that in the three month period between April and June it shipped some 14.5 million handsets, which it said was largely down to the release of the popular LG G3.

This sales figure was so impressive as it marked a 20 per cent rise in sales when compared to the same period a year ago. Given that it came at a time of year when all of the biggest companies were putting out their new smartphones, it's an even better achievement.

Sales were also up by 17 per cent when compared to the quarter that came before, but this can largely be attributed to the fact few phones come to market at the start of the year, and LG was still waiting to release the G3.

looking forward, it also appears that LG is not resting on its laurels. It is looking to capitalise on the success of the G3 as it seeks to continue to roll it out in a wider range of countries across the world, while it is believed to be working on a number of variants, including a compact version and a G3 Beat, which will have more of a focus on the budget end of the market, giving LG another string to its bow.
