Has Samsungs Galaxy Alpha Leaked Again?

New pictures purporting to be the Samsung Galaxy Alpha - a device that the Korean company has said time and again it is not actually working on - have appeared on Chinese social media site Weibo, showing that the new handset could come in a different colour.

The white phone shown in the picture appears different in shape than the Samsung Galaxy S5, which lends weight to the belief that it is a new device - Samsung revealed earlier this week that it intends to release two new smartphones in 2014, with one of these believed to be the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which should launch in early December.

The company also said that one of its new devices will have 'new materials' in its build, after the quality of the external parts of previous phones - such as the all-plastic Samsung Galaxy S5 - have been criticised as more and more competitors ramp up their offerings.

In the images posted to Weibo by a user going by the name DaarthVader, a white Samsung device is shown from the back, front and side, and while it seems that the rear of the phone appears to be made from the same plastic that is in the case of the Galaxy S5, the side is very different.

From this side-on view, we can see that the Alpha has a metal band running around it, much like that which has been seen on the last few generations of Apple iPhone, which definitely lends it a new premium feel in terms of its build.

Previously, we had seen only a blue Alpha, so the emergence of images of a white device suggests that Samsung is now getting closer and closer to a potential release date for the handset.

Will the phone be a successor to the S5 though? According to reports, it seems that this won't be the case. We had expected a prime device with quad-HD display to be launched, but so far it seems that the phone will have a screen that is less impressive than the S5, so while Samsung ramps up build quality, it seems it's playing it safe with the specs so far.
