Watch Music Videos With New YouTube IPhone App

A new version of the YouTube application for Apple iOS mobile phones has been released.

Previously, the app was pre-installed onto iPhones because Apple devices do not support Adobe Flash. This meant most videos could not be watched through a browser. Google Inc. agreed to re-format videos so that they would work on the devices, as long as YouTube was pre-loaded.

The imminent Apple operating system, iOS 6, will not have this feature. More videos are now compatible with Apple devices, so a dedicated app is not as necessary. Also, the relationship between the two technology giants has soured.

People will now need to download YouTube from the App Store, as they would with a game. This gives Google Inc. much more control over the app's content.

As a result, the new YouTube for iOS supports 'tens of thousands' more videos, most notably music videos.  The experience on Apple devices should now be more similar to browsing the website on a computer.
