Wanting to use mobile internet may encourage mobile phone recycling
Within five years more people will be accessing the internet from a mobile handset than via a desktop PC, a report has suggested.
The recent report from Morgan Stanley may encourage people to recycle their used mobile for cash towards a new handset such as an Apple iPhone or BlackBerry.
A growth in use of mobile internet is expected to further increase this year as manufacturers aim to be the favourite choice for consumers when purchasing a smartphone.
The investment group said: "As 3G adoption hits inflection points in many markets, consumers are flocking to a broad range of IP- based usage models over powerful mobile internet- enabled devices."
It also suggested that companies such as Apple are "aiming to transform how communications works, how entertainment and news are distributed, how goods and services are purchased".
According to research by market analyst Nielsen the Apple iPhone was the favourite choice for consumers in 2009.
