Vodafone encourages mobile phone users to be charitable
Consumers could wish to consider making a charitable donation from their mobile phone, following the latest announcement by Vodafone.
The mobile network has revealed an increase in money donated so that for every donation of a £1 or more, £0.90 will go directly to charity, with the remaining pennies used to cover network costs.
Commenting on the news John Low, chief executive of the Charities Aid Foundation, said that as Vodafone is the UK's second biggest mobile phone operator "this is a very significant announcement".
He added that he hopes more mobile operators will follow suit because making a donation by text is a great way to fundraise since it is "easy and spontaneous for donors".
"Donating by text message is an easy and simple way for customers to give to charity and this change will make it more attractive," said Libby Pritchard, head of corporate responsibility at Vodafone UK.
