Trade in mobiles for chance to pay by phone
Those wishing to make their lives easier by paying for goods and services with a phone may be wise to consider trading in their mobiles now.
Howard Wilcox, senior analyst at Juniper Research, said the country is almost certainly ready for the implementation of the contactless payment technology.
He noted that Arriva Buses has now implemented it, as have a number of cities in Scandinavia and central and eastern Europe, proving it can be effective.
There are not even any major disadvantages to those introducing the technology, with Mr Wilcox stating: "Often such systems are set up on a transaction-based model which has the benefit of avoiding a large capital outlay."
However, in order to take advantage of the technology when it is widely used in the UK, people may have to be in possession of one of the latest mobiles.
One possible purchase is the Samsung Galaxy S II, which Three recently confirmed it is now stocking.
