Trade-in mobile in 2011 'for super-thin screen'

People who plan to trade-in a mobile phone in 2011 will be able to switch to a model with a super-thin display, if one expert is to be believed.

Flora Graham, penning a piece for CNET UK, explains Nobel Prize winners Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselo believe graphene will be a key addition to handsets over the coming months.

In an interview with the BBC, Mr Greim is said to have detailed how the award-winning material will be added to devices early next year.

"I was promised next summer that if I go to South Korea, they will present me with a mobile phone having such a screen," the scientist is quoted as saying.

Graphene is a one atom-thick transparent sheet of carbon that could be applied to smartphones to give them "super-slim" and "strong" touchscreens, says Ms Graham.
