Trade in mobile for VoIP opportunities with O2
Britons who would like access to voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology may be wise to trade in their mobile phones and switch to a deal with O2.
That is because the network has launched its own solution, which allows users to make calls and send text messages via the web.
It works by taking advantage of the WiFi connections available around the country and can be accessed from some of the company's standard mobile phones.
O2 Connect will initially be available to those with iOS and Android-powered devices on a trial basis.
"This trial will allow us to explore the potential of delivering VoIP services to customers. We hope to launch O2 Connect as a commercial service in 2012," explained Richard Porter, head of consumer mobile products at O2 in the UK.
One of O2's other recent offerings to customers was an app named Healthy, designed to help people improve their fitness by encouraging walking.
