Tesco Clubcard app set for Apple iPhone

09/02/2010

Consumers could wish to consider recycling their old mobile phone in order to upgrade to an Apple iPhone, as Tesco has now revealed a Clubcard application for the handset.

Users of the iPhone could choose to download the app, enter their details and then use the barcode on their handset in place of the traditional Clubcard.

Tesco also plans to introduce similar apps for Blackberry and Nokia phones but it is yet to be revealed when that may occur.

Nick Lansley, Tesco's head of research and development, said that the company intends to do lots more with the app in the future, such as display the user's points balance and that it is even looking at finding ways to bring e-vouchers straight to the Clubcard app so that people can use them at the checkout directly from their phone.

The iPhone is available on Tesco Mobile in the UK.
