Technology upgrade could incentivise mobile trade in
A significant upgrade to technology that powers mobile broadband in the UK could make it worthwhile for consumers to trade in used phones and switch to newer models.
Ofcom has approved plans for operators in the country to trade the rights to the radio spectrum they hold – a move that is expected to trigger an increase in the network capacity.
As a result, Britons should soon benefit from faster and more reliable mobile broadband, which could be best utilised on smartphones.
There is currently a huge demand from users for the web, especially from the 12.8 million smartphones in a nationwide total of 80 million handsets.
Under the new regulations, operators with customers who require extra capacity will be able to purchase it from rivals.
Broadband Genie recently conducted research that found Britons are increasingly prioritising mobile broadband and are willing to splash out on it.
