Square mobile phones 'appeal to younger generations'
Microsoft's Kin, Sony Ericsson's Xperia X10 Mini Pro and Nokia's 7705 Twist are just some of the mobile phones recently released that are on the square side.
A Relaxnews report in the Independent said younger mobile phone customers appear to like handsets that are compact and square-form in their design.
The Microsoft Kin - which features a five-megapixel camera with LumiLed flash - has an almost-square screen and is rounded to fit better in the palm.
Meanwhile, the Xperia X10 Mini Pro measures 3.5 x 2.0 x 0.7 inches.
According to the report: "The square devices are mostly in the low to mid-range price bracket and seem to be targeted at consumers aged 15 to 35."
If older mobile phones now seem to be too large and chunky, consumers may want to recycle their old handsets in order to help raise the cash required to purchase a more up-to-date device.
