Sony Launches Xperia Sola

Sony has expanded its smart mobile phone offerings with the launch of the Xperia Android handset the Sola. It is the first Sony phone to be showing off the user interface technology that the firm describes as "floating touch".

This means that consumers will be able to navigate the web by hovering their fingers above the screen as if it was a moving cursor without ever having to touch the screen until a desired link is found and a tap of the screen will load the page.

According to Sony, the firm aims to improve the floating touch with the addition of new user functionality and applications through software updates.

The Sola will launch running the Android 2.3 Gingerbread and will upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich by this summer.

Uptake of Ice Cream Sandwich has been slow across many different manufacturers with Samsung recently announcing it would only be making the update available for users of the Galaxy S II in the coming weeks.
