Social Networks May Be Vital Consideration When Recycling Mobile Phones

Many people are happy to recycle mobile phones when they switch to a new and hi-tech device that performs all of their most valued functions.

But it is important to ensure that any potential handset does indeed work in the way that a consumer hopes, which could include offering access to social networks.

According to new figures from ABI Research, some 73 per cent of mobile users in the US now enjoy sites such as Facebook and Twitter via their phone.

This means it is second only to checking emails – something done by 80 per cent of mobile owners – in terms of the most popular device-based activities.

Commenting on the success of mobiles when it comes to social networks, the organisation's practice director Neil Strother said: "In fact, the phone is a preferred device for doing a number of activities by nearly half of those who access social networks via mobile."

Carphone Warehouse recently found that many people will use their phones while overseas on holiday this summer, with Facebook and Twitter among the most common activities.
