Social networking may become priority for business mobile users
Firms who adopt a vast set of the latest mobile phones for staff to use in a professional environment may stay one step ahead of the game if they choose devices with good social networking functions.
That is because, in the opinion of analysts from Gartner, the method of communication is set to play a significant role in business dealings over the coming years.
Indeed, they believe it will have overtaken emailing as the primary method of communication for 20 per cent of organisations within four years.
Monica Basso, research vice-president at Gartner, says: "In the past, organisations supported collaboration through email and highly structured applications only. Today, social paradigms are converging with e-mail, instant messaging and presence, creating new collaboration styles."
The research firm's suggestion may be backed up by a recent study by the network Three that found Facebook is already the most popular feature of handheld phones among mobile broadband customers.
