Smartphones Could Be Main Reason To Recycle Mobiles

People looking to recycle standard mobile phones may increasingly be doing so in order to make the change to a hi-tech smartphone.

According to new findings from Juniper Research, shipments of smartphones are set to rocket over the coming years.

It is predicted that the total number sent around the world will hit one billion a year by 2016, up from the 2010 total of 302 million.

Daniel Ashdown, author of the smartphones report, explained: "In developed markets, many consumers will want to upgrade from a feature phone to a smartphone, but still pay a feature phone price."

The good news for consumers is that there are now more affordable options in the smartphone market, with developers possibly becoming more aware of the demand for lower-end models.

Rob Thurner, mobile consultant and digital trainer at the Institute of Direct and Digital Marketing, recently highlighted web browsing as a popular purpose of smartphones, revealing 28 per cent of all internet activity now occurs on the handsets.
