Smartphones could allow on-the-move online shopping
The introduction of smart mobile phones could encourage people to shop online more, recent expert comments may suggest.
People may want to trade in an old mobile phone in order to raise the cash to purchase a new handset with online capabilities such as an Apple iPhone or a BlackBerry.
The latest Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index revealed that UK consumers spent £5.3 billion online in November and this figure could potentially increase in future with smartphone technology.
Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch, said: "The big change will be consumer behaviour, with the introduction of new smart mobile devices and applications bringing more empowerment to the shopper - online and offline."
According Retail Decisions, a member of the IMRG, December 7th was the biggest UK online shopping day of 2009 with £1.4 million being spent online at 13:43 GMT in just one minute.
