Smartphones are vulnerable to viruses
People looking into the option of mobile phone recycling to get their hands on one of the latest smartphones or tablets must take into account that they are equally vulnerable to viruses.
Many citizens take it for granted that their handsets will not be vulnerable to attacks from viruses by surfing on the internet, with the majority assuming that it can only happen on a laptop.
Senior vice president of international sales at security solutions firm Entrust Mark Reeves said many people don't appreciate the magnitude of the possibility that some of the many apps that are downloaded could be carrying viruses.
"There have been a few stories, certainly around the Android market, of some of the apps carrying viruses or being able to kick off phishing attacks," Mr Reeves added.
Last week figures found that Apple continues to dominate the paid apps industry, as the company earned more than 54 per cent of the revenue from downloads in 2011.
