Smartphones and tablets are outselling other telecommunications
The evolution of smart mobile phones and tablets has been picked up pace over the past few years and research has shown that the devices have seen a meteoric rise in the last 12 months.
Data complied by retail and technology firm GfK found that in terms of units sold, smartphones saw a rise of 431 per cent in 2011, while the number of tablets being shipped grew 94 per cent in the same period.
In contrast to this, feature phones, netbooks and dongles saw decreases over the same period of 28, 18 and seven per cent respectively.
In line with these increasing figures and popularity in smartphones and tablets, the research firm is predicting that the accessories segment will experience strong growth throughout this year.
Such is the popularity of smartphones in the UK that Kantar Worldpanel ComTech recently noted that over 50 per cent of the population now owns one of the devices.
