Smartphone use continues to rise as people recycle mobile phones
The usage of smartphones continues to rise throughout the world as people continue to recycle mobile phones in favour of having one of the latest trend-setting handsets available, it has been claimed.
According to the Arieso study entitled Recent Smartphone Trends & Extreme Data User, the increased intelligence of smartphones is causing more and more people to download data on to their device.
Chief technology officer of Arieso and study author Dr Michael Flanagan said the increased numbers of downloads means networks are struggling to keep up and they must heed industry warnings.
"The mobile industry needs new investment and new approaches to boost network performance and manage the customer experience," he added.
Dr Flanagan said without preparing networks to support the new generation of smart devices, operators risk spiralling out of control.
Figures released last week showed that the number of downloads seen from iPads has reached three billion in just a year-and-a-half, while Android tablets have only had around 440 million downloads.
