Sellers of mobile phones may be wise to invest in Android models
People who sell mobile phones and subsequently pick up a new model may be wise to ensure their next device is an Android one.
Michael Morgan, senior analyst of mobile devices at ABI Research, said he expects the platform to match and eventually surpass the position of Symbian within the sector.
Indeed, he noted the operating system is likely to comfortably outweigh the all-time achievements of its rival.
"Android will present many more diverse faces that are tailored to particular regions, price points, OEM branding and such forth," Mr Morgan stated.
This means Android mobiles could one day be entirely different in one part of the world compared with another, as the local focus continues to grow – in stark contrast to Symbian handsets that tend to be largely the same across the globe.
ABI Research recently forecast that Android will have captured some 45 per cent market share by 2016.
