Sell my phone: Staying safe while texting
Social media has caused no end of trouble for some smartphone users - whether they are caught out bad mouthing their bosses on their Facebook walls or posting explicit images of themselves to friends and colleagues on Flickr.
But the focus on social media safety has left another area of mobile safety out of the spotlight - illicit texting.
According to MP Ann Coffey, text message safety is a major concern in the UK and mobile phone operators should be doing everything in their power to boost it.
She claimed that sexting is worthy of a parliamentary debate and suggested that the suppliers of mobile phone handsets should include leaflets warning of the dangers of the practice in the packaging of new phones.
Speaking at Westminster, the MP said: "The mobile phone industry has a responsibility, bearing in mind the profits they make and the targeting they do of young people to buy their products, to set aside money to inform young people of the risks of sexting."
