Sell my mobile: Mobile phones running on Mozilla to be available from 'late
Mobile phones running an operating system developed by the makers of the Mozilla Firefox web browser will go on sale in late 2012.
The first handsets running Mozilla's Boot to Gecko (B2G) software will be available in Brazil on Telefonica Vivo's mobile network, tech blog in the country Ztop reported.
It was initially announced in July 2011 and makers of the software hope this could be an open rival to Google's Android.
B2G was started as a way to bring the same discipline to mobile phones as it does to its browser. It hopes the operating system will give people more control over what their phones do.
Chief executive of Mozilla Gary Kovacs believes this approach will make a difference to the way applications on phones operate.
No specific date for the launch has been given but it should be happening at the end of 2012 or at the very latest by early 2013.
