Scientists invent fast-charging phone battery

Scientists in the US have developed a new battery capable of being charged within ten seconds.

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology developed the super-fast battery, which could be used in mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices, science journal Nature reports.

Developers apparently found a way of speeding up the process of charging lithium ion batteries by up to 100 times.

Peter Bruce of the University of St Andrews commented: "As far as I know, this is the fastest yet for this material."

The breakthrough could transform mobile phone charging from a process that takes several hours to one that it is almost instant.

It was not revealed whether the quicker charging will have a positive effect on the environment.

According to Real Life News, consumers looking to be greener should ensure their mobile phone chargers are unplugged when not connected to a device, as they can often use up energy even when they are not charging handsets.
