Sapphire set for Apple's iPhone 6
We've heard before that Apple could be trying to improve the standard of the screens on its mobile phones by making them with a sapphire-crystal hybrid. Now new reports support this claim and suggest that the Cupertino company is on-track to bring the technology to the iPhone 6.
According to a report from 9to5Mac, Apple has put a large order in for the type of furnaces and chambers that are used when building sapphire displays. The document suggests that the American manufacturer will have enough machines to build up to 106 million displays every year. However, the report says that more will be on the way, to allow the company to produce up to 200 million handsets.
If Apple does create screens with sapphire material, it could create displays that are far more resistant to drops and scratches. If they are successful, it's possible that they would make their way across to the company's iPads.
