Samsung Vows To Fix Galaxy S3 Update Problem

Samsung has admitted that it made a mistake in releasing a software update that removed a search function from its international version of the hugely popular Galaxy S3.

It disabled the advanced Google local search function earlier this week and Android Central had reported that this step was taken as a result of patent disputes with Apple.

However, the firm said it would be providing consumers with the correct software upgrade within the "next few days".

Users that downloaded the update had not been warned that it would remove the advanced search function when the software was installed on devices in the UK and other places around the world outside the US.

Samsung only wanted to prevent its US mobile phones from using the tool that shows information sourced from the phone's memory.

"The most recent software upgrade for the Galaxy S3 in the UK included the inadvertent removal of the universal search function," the company said in a statement.
