Samsung To Use Single Chip For Next Smartphone

Samsung has reportedly confirmed it will be lowering dependence on the US chipmaker Qualcomm by using single-chip solutions for its next smart mobile phone the Galaxy S III.

This move comes after Qualcomm - the world's top memory chipmaker - shifted its focus to more profitable and less volatile non-memory chips, Korea Times reports.

Earlier this month the firm was forced to fend off rumours that it was due to launch the new device in the first quarter of this year by stating it would be unveiled at some point "in the first half of the year".

A high-ranking company official was quoted as saying that Samsung is paying huge amounts to Qualcomm in return for using its single-chip solutions.

"We don’t think there will be big technology-related problems as we have already tested our telecommunications chips in some smartphones and tablets for consumers in North America," another official reportedly told the publication.
