Samsung to ‘diamond-coat’ the S5?
While a lot of different telecoms companies are looking at creating scratch-resistant coatings for their mobile phones, South Korean firm Samsung may have gone one step further with rumours that the Galaxy S5 may be coated with diamond.
Not actual diamonds of course, but a “diamond metal surface treatment technology”, according to Korean site ET News.
The company will allegedly be creating this technology by using intense heat on carbon, similar to the way diamonds are created underground.
The hardness of the material would make the phone extremely resistant to scratches and other damage, although it seems like it would be expensive for Samsung to use on each of its phones.
Due to the timing of this announcement, with the Galaxy S5 supposedly coming out in February 2014, it seems unlikely that this technology will be seen until the release of the Galaxy Note 4 later in the year.
