Samsung Omnia Ad Wins Cannes Trophy

An advertisement for the Samsung Omnia has been unveiled as the recipient of this year's Silver Award in the Cyber Lions category of the Cannes Lions Awards 2009.

Featuring an unboxing of the device, the innovative clip was chosen from a host of other entries to take the title and a spokesman from the South Korean group suggested it was another success for the overall campaign.

Younghee Lee, vice-president of global marketing at Samsung's mobile communications division, said the video had not only been popular online, but had played an integral part of establishing the Omnia.

"[We] planned a consumer-oriented, holistic brand campaign with primary focus on buzz marketing including online viral marketing and it contributed very much to Omnia's big success," he explained.

However, it is not the only accolade that has recently been given to the company, at ceremony in London Samsung was named Best Manufacturer at the Mobile Industry Awards 2009.
