Samsung 'increases' lead over Apple
Samsung has increased its lead over Apple and Nokia in the global mobile phone market for the second quarter, according to a new poll.
Strong demand for Samsung objects such as its latest flagship device - the Galaxy S3 - and large marketing campaigns have been noted as key influences on the increased lead.
The poll was conducted by news agency Reuters and it suggested that Samsung and Apple have been neck-and-neck for several quarters but the launch of the Galaxy S3 has helped tip the scale.
Samsung overtook Nokia as the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world during the first quarter after the Finnish company had been on top for 14 years.
"We are expecting to see the biggest smartphone volumes ever shipped from one single vendor in one quarter, driven by strong demand of the Galaxy portfolio, particularly the Galaxy S2 and S2," IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo told the news provider.
