Sagem plans fingerprint technology

03/02/2010

Mobile manufacturer Sagem has revealed that it is working on plans to introduce fingerprint technology to a new range of Android-powered handsets, which it hopes to release later this year.

The fingerprint could be used to unlock phones and act as one of the most impressive security features in the history of mobile phone development.

Mobile recycling could be an option worth considering for consumers and businesses hoping to get their hands on one of the devices.

Jerome Nadel, executive vice-president of marketing and user experience at Sagem Wireless, said: "Both security and usability are critical to reducing perceptions of risk, improving convenience and encouraging usage."

He added that the company aims to continue the development of the technology and provide faster, more secure access to services on a user's handset and simplify the process of identifying them.

It is hoped that the technology will aid services such as making online purchases, internet banking and add protection against theft.
