Recycle old mobiles for the PlayStation Phone?
People may be sorely tempted to trade in mobiles for the forthcoming Xperia Play, due to be unveiled by Sony Ericsson next weekend (February 13th) at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
Also known as the PlayStation Phone, the Android-powered handset will offer users a slide-out control pad specifically designed to cash in on the increasing interest in mobile gaming.
News of the launch was confirmed in a Sony Ericsson ad break shown during the Super Bowl, featuring an Android recovering from a surgical operation in which he had thumbs grafted onto his robot arms and hit the city streets to road-test his new digits.
No doubt this handset will spur on many people around the world to consider mobile phone recycling, but so too could the idea of free calls using VoIP technology, with communications provider Vopium recently noting that those made using either Wi-Fi or the 3G network have climbed to over 35 per cent from 19 per cent in the last year.
