Recycle mobile phone: Smartphone market goes from strength to strength
The worldwide mobile phone market declined 1.5 per cent year on year in the first three months of 2012, research has shown.
Samsung managed to oust leader of the of the mobile phone industry Nokia to become the top vendor.
According to the International Data Corporation Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, operators managed to ship 398.4 million units in the first three months when compared with the first quarter of 2011.
Despite this, the worldwide smartphone market grew 42.5 per cent year on year in Q1 of 2012 as Samsung overtook Apple for the smart device leadership position also.
Senior research analyst with IDC's Mobile Phone Technology and Trends programme Ramon Llamas said the race between Apple and Samsung in the quarter remained tight.
"With other companies in the midst of major strategic transitions, the contest between Apple and Samsung will bear close observation as hotly-anticipated new models are launched," he continued.
