Parents could opt to 'sell my mobile' in order to enjoy child protection ap
The prospect of selling mobile phones in order to switch to an Android device may never have been as appealing to parents as it is right now.
That is because Vodafone has released a brand new app for the operating system that helps mums and dads care for their youngsters.
Vodafone Guardian is a free tool that helps parents block inappropriate use of the internet, unwanted calls and malicious text messages from their kids' phones.
Children and their parents can discuss what is required in their particular circumstances and choose the settings to reflect this.
The potential market for the app is large, with Ofcom recently noting 18 per cent of five to 11-year-olds now own a smartphone.
"As a mother I can fully appreciate that mums and dads, grandparents and carers want to keep in touch with their children – and they also want them to be safe," said Justine Campbell, legal and government affairs director at Vodafone.
ABI Research recently said that another type of app set to soar in popularity over the coming years is those that deal with health.
