Over 4m Nokia Lumia mobile phones sold in Q4
Preliminary information indicates that Nokia Lumia and Asha mobile phone sales exceeded company expectations in the fourth quarter.
An estimated 15.9 million smart devices were shipped in the three-month period, achieving net sales of around €1.2 billion (£987 million).
Following their release in November, success of the latest Lumia 820 and 920 handsets is likely to have contributed significantly.
The Finnish manufacturer adopted the new Windows Phone 8 software in these new devices, hoping to capture a larger portion of the customer base.
It has been struggling to compete against Samsung when utilising the Android platform, which is dominant alongside Apple in the sector.
Its high-end, flagship Lumia 920 device sports innovative camera software, 4G network compatibility and wireless charging technology.
However, the uSwitch Mobile Tracker indicates that the Lumia 800 model was most successful across the Christmas period
It achieved seventh place on the December popularity table - featuring just below the Apple iPhone 5 and above the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phablet.
