Nokia stops Symbian OS production
Nokia is due to stop shipping handsets that carry its mobile phone operating system Symbian.
Reports from AllThingsD indicated earlier this week that Nokia will stop sending out smartphones with its custom-built software sometime in the next few weeks.
It also suggested that any leftover devices would only be sold in emerging markets to try and get rid of as many as possible.
Although it may take a while to deplete the stockpile, the low-cost handset will probably be a success in developing markets as there is still quite strong demand.
The decision to cut-off Symbian devices would mean that Nokia will completely rely on Windows Phone for its operating system needs, but this has been working pretty well for them with the likes of the Lumia 920.
Nokia hasn't confirmed anything yet, but it did mention that the Nokia 808 Pureview would be the end of a system and a "new wave" would start.
