Nokia showcases new mobile system
Finnish handset manufacturer Nokia has shown off the latest stage in its Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.
The system, which can be used to transfer data between mobile phones at close range, is something the company has had in development for some time - and has now been taken a stage further a new device.
Nokia appeared at the third annual WIMA conference at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco to unveil the 6216 Classic - its first phone to allow operators the ability to integrate NFC services into the sim card itself.
It is hoped that once introduced, consumers will take advantage of the technology to share documents such as pictures and video, as well as make payments and access events.
Jeremy Belostock, head of NFC at the company, said: "With the Nokia 6216 Classic in your pocket and the ticketing applications on the SIM you can replace the multitude of cards in your wallet."
