Nokia N97 users among 'one million Ovi subscribers'
Nokia has announced that subscriptions to its mobile phone-based email service have now hit a new milestone.
The Finnish manufacturer, which counts devices like the Nokia N97, 5800 XpressMusic, N85 and E71 among its current line up, said the number of registrations it had set up for Ovi Mail now topped the one million mark.
It was advised that in particular the service had proved popular in a number of developing nations - thanks in part to the fact that it allows people to set up an address without the need for a PC or laptop with traditional web access.
Nokia added India, Indonesia, Mexico, Russia and South Africa were the top five countries in terms of registered Ovi Mail users. However, access is also available to those with the latest phones in the UK and Europe.
Tom Furlong, head of consumer messaging at the company, said: "For first-time email users, Ovi Mail provides a digital identity and we are thrilled by its rapidly rising adoption rate."
Ovi Mail is free to sign up to and provides the user with 1 GB of online storage.
