Nokia Handset Receives Gadget Of The Year Nomination

The Nokia N900 could be a handset which encourages consumers to recycle their old mobile phone as it has received two award nominations.

Consumers may be interested in purchasing the device as it has been nominated for Gadget of the Year and Smartphone of the Year in this year's Engadget Awards.

The award have nominations spread across 23 different categories and may give consumers a run down of some of the best handsets currently available on sale.

The winners of the awards will be announced in the week following the deadline day for voting (February 20th).

Nokia was also nominated in the Netbook of the Year category, with its Nokia Booklet 3G being singled out for praise.

In IDC's Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker report Nokia was singled out for praise, with the report stating that it was "the undisputed leader of converged mobile devices worldwide".

The report revealed that during the fourth quarter of 2009, 54.5 million smartphone units were shipped by vendors, suggesting that the popularity of smartphone handsets is increasing.
