New solar powered phone unveiled
A new solar powered phone has been developed as mobile manufacturers increasingly look to environmentally-friendly technologies.
Portable renewable energy device manufacturer Better Energy Systems has announced that it is launching a new solar-powered hands-free speaker phone that will provide users with "virtually unlimited talk-time".
The company unveiled its new Solio Communicator, which uses an integrated solar panel to store the sun's energy in its internal Lithium-ion battery for up to a year, at the 2009 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
"The Solio Communicator offers an environmentally friendly hands-free option, which enables users to enjoy the functionality of a mobile phone safely and legally while driving," the manufacturer said in a statement.
However, the Solio is a hybrid device, meaning that it can be charged via a USB port, wall adaptor or a 12-volt cigarette lighter socket, not just the sun.
Samsung recently revealed its first solar powered handset. The Blue Earth mobile phone is also a touch-screen device, meaning it combines eco-friendly technology with the latest in usability.
