New phone design could protect the environment
A London-based designer is working on a phone that can be powered by cola instead of a traditional battery.
The concept - which reportedly could be on sale within five years - hopes to reduce the damage that phones sent to landfill can cause to the environment.
Consumers can currently minimise harm caused by mobile phone batteries through the mobile phone recycling process.
Energy saving fans could be attracted to the phone as it would remove the need to take a traditional charger with them when they go away or are out for an extended period of time.
Users could also cut down on energy use in the home by removing the need to charge their handset via a plug socket.
"I found that [the existing] phone battery as a power source, it is expensive, consuming valuable resources on manufacturing, presenting a disposal problem and harmful to the environment," said designer Daizi Zheng.
