New mobile phone owners could enjoy updated Google Maps
Consumers with the latest mobile phones are in pole position when it comes to making the most of the updated Google Maps technology.
According to the Google Mobile Blog, the feature has been revamped for the sixth time in as many months.
Mobile phones that run on the Android 4.4 operating system will be able to launch the new version of the navigation service.
It could be so tempting to some people that recycling an old mobile and putting the cash towards a compatible handset may be seen as a worthwhile investment.
Users of suitable devices will now be offered a new icon at the top of their screen inviting them to use Google Maps.
"Press and drag it right onto your home screen to use it when you're looking for a restaurant, shoe store, movie theatre or any other type of local business," explains the online publication.
Google's own smartphone, the Nexus One, is another of the search engine's major contributions to the mobile market.
