Mozilla thinks smartphones are shiny jails
Mozilla has spoken out against Android, Apple and Microsoft-toting mobile phones saying that they are all jails, according to TechRadar.
The Firefox company is reported to be working on HTML 5 through its operating system to design software that will work across all platforms, including tablets, smartphones and computers, without the need to tailor it to each company.
Speaking at Qualcomm's Uplinq conference in San Diego, vice president of mobile engineering at Mozilla, Andreas Gal, said: "Mobile phones are jails, and you have to pick one to sit in. The vendors control everything that happens in them."
He added: "They are very shiny jails, they're nice jails, but you can't escape."
The situation is causing problems for developers and users alike who both struggle to seamlessly move apps from one platform to another, according to the vice president at Mozilla.
A system like the one that Mozilla is proposing could make transitioning between operating systems and different platforms much easier for users, meaning that there would be fewer difficulties if you decide to pick a new handset from a different manufacturer.
