More smartphones running on Android 4.0 to launch in Q2
The supply of smart mobile phones running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is set to significantly improve in the second quarter of 2012.
With mid-range and high-end models coming from a number of vendors including HTC, Samsung and Sony consumers are set to have a larger choice to make when buying a new mobile phone.
Samsung confirmed earlier this week that its Note - the device that bridges the gap between smartphones and tablets - will be updated with the new operating system for all its consumers in Q2.
Sources told the Digi Times that smartphones running on the operating system account for only around two to three per cent of all Android handsets.
"A portion of new Android phones rolled out by China-based brand vendors as well as white-box handset makers will also support Android 4.0, using chipset solutions from Qualcomm and MediaTek," the sources were quoted as saying.
