Money for used phones could fund investment in mobile augmented reality
People may be wise to take money for their used phones over the coming months and years in order to keep up with the latest technology.
According to a new report by Juniper Research, this could be based upon the increasing dependence upon mobile augmented reality (AR) technology in the industry.
Indeed, it predicts some 1.4 billion annual downloads using the element will be made by 2015 – up from only 11 million last year.
Dr Windsor Holden, author of the report, states: "High-profile companies such as Carlsberg are integrating branded AR apps into wider campaigns, while others – Time Out, Royal Mail, Coca Cola - are using B2C applications such as junaio to facilitate AR content."
AR is already having an impact on some of the latest apps and games, such as those concerning social networking and education.
Ovum recently described social network Facebook as a major player in the mobile industry, as it is now desired by so many consumers.
