Mobile phones 'should be tailored for older people'
Telecommunications companies are potentially missing out on millions of pounds by failing to provide a mobile phone that is suitable for older people.
Richard Cappin of DialToSave.co.uk explained any firm that taps into demand from 'Silver Surfers' could have a hit on its hands.
He said smartphones are typically aimed at "tech-savvy youngsters", despite an increasing interest in these products from the older generations.
"The demand for an all-round easy-to-use handset could one day even lead to a superphone, rather than just a smart one," stated Mr Cappin.
He added he is often asked by ageing consumers for his opinion on which current device is the simplest to operate – something he thinks mobile phone providers should be making clear.
Dennis Juul Poulsen, business director of Tweakker, agreed with Mr Capping and suggested the ultimate mobile would be easy to use.
Alternatively, those of advancing years could turn to a tablet handset, such as the iPad 2 which was launched this week.
